You heard a completely outrageous offer, and then decided to base your own assumptions on it. I assumed that if the Backer price was $300, the eventual cost would be around $400-500, and I was okay with that. In fact, I never quite understood how they were managing to shave ~$300 of the expected price for a competitor and still be business viable. I don't think it's a surprise at all that the ZPM's costs are now in line with comparable machines. If you or anyone else saw that initial video without thinking "well, not only does that sound incredible, it sounds too good to be true," well, you need to turn up your consumer caution goggles or stay off sites like Kickstarter. Kickstarter is a place where people make unreasonable and downright outrageous promises to get funding for projects they rarely understand completely from people with an even worse understanding of the industry they're investing in. ZPM is a flagship for this cause, but hardly the only offender. Am I being unreasonable? Will this thing be worth over $100 more than a Rancilio Silvia or a Crossland CC1? I want it to be!Īs ever, we hit the much needed "caveat emptor" with regards to hypothetical products, and even more so related to Kickstarter projects. I would have gladly dropped up to $600 on it, but $799? Nope. I am very disappointed in their product timeline execution, but I understand the snags they have hit. I really wanted the ZPM to be affordable for what it was. Screw that, it's ridiculous, 266% more? A company that raised 1848% over their goal and are over a year past their initial launch date should be a little more sympathetic towards potential customers who have waited so long to purchase. I saw that the Kickstarter Backer price for a non-beta model was $300 and was super excited about the thought of a relatively cheap, decent machine. In their initial video Gleb slams espresso machines that cost "over $700". Has anyone else been following the ZPM Nocturn? I found out about it too late to fund it, but was super excited.
